About the course

On this course you will learn the theoretical and some further practical aspects of electrical installation, including assembling electrical wiring systems, safe and efficient working practices, and using and communicating technical information. Tutors will develop your knowledge of electrotechnical design, environmental technology systems, science and principles, inspection testing and commissioning, diagnosing and correcting electrical faults, overseeing and organising the work environment and small-scale solar photovoltaic systems.  

This vocational programme is designed to map to the Apprenticeship course content, giving you the necessary skills to progress into the electrical industry as an Apprentice (employer required) with the require knowledge to then develop your on-site skills to complete your journey.

Entry Requirements

A Level 2 Electrical Installation plus GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics.

NELTK3/03-Understanding the Practices and Procedures for Overseeing and Organising the Work Environment - Electrical Installation 

NELEC3/04A-Electrical installation planning, preparing and designing 

NELEC3/05-Electrical installation craft skills 

NELTK3/06-Inspecting, testing and commissioning of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment 

NELTK3/07-Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment 

NELEC3/08A-Electrical science and principles 

Assessment

These units are assessed in accordance with the awarding body requirements, we have identified below how these will be assessed whether this is a practical assessment, and on-screen assessment or a written theory assessment.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course, you can progress on to the Apprenticeship scheme (employer required) and complete the work-related aspects of the apprenticeship journey.  This course can also be used toward the entry criteria for an HNC in a related pathway.

Enrichment Activities

We regularly host and put learners forward for regional and national skills competitions such as SkillBuild and SPARKS. You will have the opportunity to visit industrial sites linked to electrical installation, construction sites, national trade exhibitions and buildings of architectural significance. The division is focused on links with the community and community projects, encouraging all learners to gain work experience in their chosen area.
