About the course
Develop and refine your dance performance and technical skills in a variety of styles including Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Street, Tap and Acro. This course will encourage you to become a well- rounded dancer developing your technical, performance and choreographic skills across all dance styles. You will develop an understanding of each style and explore contrasting techniques and practitioners to find your own style as a dance artist.
You will research the Performing Arts Industry to understand current trends and developments and how to promote yourself. You will perform in public performance projects inclusive of Dance showcases and full scale Musical Theatre production and Pantomime. All projects replicate the demands of the industry with a robust academic underpinning essential for further study at university-level.

Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English and Mathematics or a relevant Level 2 qualification.
At least three years training and experience in a style of Dance is essential.
You will be required to attend a practical workshop where you will have the opportunity to showcase your ability, creative potential and passion for your subject.
Modules
Year 1: Module C Dance Skills Development (Exploring Dance Styles; Creating Performance Material; Performing as a Dancer as Part of an Ensemble). Module F The Performing Arts Industry (Planning a Career in the Industry).
Year 2: Module G Personal Performing Arts Profile (Refining Skills; Producing a Personal Project; Self-promotion and Networking). Module H Collaborative Performing Arts Project (Creative/Administrative Role; Creative Collaboration; Producing a Collaborative Project).
Assessment
Assessment will combine practical performance work with academic underpinning. Evidence may include technique classes, workshops, rehearsals, performances, reflective logs, extended writing, presentations, digital portfolios, edited video, and voice recordings. Work will be internally assessed and externally verified.
Careers & Progression
Continue your studies at prestigious dance schools and conservatoires including Northern School of Contemporary Dance, The Hammond, Shockout Arts and Addict. Or move straight into employment in roles such as Choreographer, Dancer, Dance Producer or Dance Teacher.
Additional Details
Equipment Needed
Black gym attire and leotards and tights are required for dance classes with appropriate footwear such as ballet, tap, jazz and character shoes. Students are expected to purchase one course t-shirt at £15.
Equipment Supplied
You will have access to industry standard performance and rehearsal spaces. The department also provides access to high-spec video cameras, changing facilities, ballet barres, acro equipment and PCs/laptops for theory lessons.
Enrichment Activities
Trips include London Theatre visit with two West End shows and a professional workshop, visits to professional theatre productions across the Northwest, practical workshops with industry professionals, involvement in community theatre projects and a three-night stay in London to attend ‘Move It!’ one of the world’s biggest dance conventions. We offer additional training with our Dance, Musical Theatre and Acting Academies facilitated by our tutors, providing further creative and performance opportunities. You will also benefit from a range of guest speakers. International trips to New York and Los Angeles.
