About the course

The Level 3 Diploma in Site Joinery is an advanced, employer-aligned programme that turns skilled improvers into site-ready professionals. Ideal for learners who have completed Level 2 (or have equivalent experience), it deepens your technical ability, accuracy and productivity across complex first and second fix tasks. You will refine setting out from drawings, specifications and building regulations; produce high-quality door sets, stair components and bespoke trims; install and adjust architectural ironmongery; and deliver finishes to strict tolerances. The course expands your capability in problem solving, fault diagnosis and maintenance within occupied buildings, while strengthening safe systems of work, risk assessment, quality assurance and sustainability on site.

You will also develop supervisory essentials—planning work packages, coordinating with other trades, recording progress and communicating professionally. Training is delivered in realistic workshop and simulated site environments by industry-experienced tutors. Assessment typically includes online knowledge tests, observed practical tasks and a synoptic assignment that requires you to plan, set out and complete a multi-element joinery project to specification, on time and safely, supported by a professional portfolio.

Progression pathways include an Advanced Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 (on-site assessment), employment as a competent Site Carpenter, and longer-term routes into lead carpenter, working foreperson, estimating or site management roles.
