About the course

Throughout the Higher National Diploma in Film and Television, we focus on cultivating your unique creative voice through  practical tasks that build a comprehensive set of production skills. The Higher National Diploma builds on the skills and knowledge acquired on the Higher National Certificate. The curriculum focuses on learning the skills required for  multi-camera work and recording in a TV studio, creating narrative based  materials and working alongside performers to film for performance, all of this enhanced by workshops led by industry professionals. Our cutting-edge production facilities and experienced faculty, with over 20 years of industry experience, provide the resources and support necessary to bring your creative visions to life.

The course offers a dynamic blend of classroom instruction, studio work, and location shooting. Students will engage in analysing, writing, and discussing various types of productions, while collaborating on practical tasks. You'll gain hands-on experience with cameras, sound and lighting equipment, and post-production software. Projects will encompass research, scriptwriting, production planning, and post-production activities such as color correction, audio post-production, and motion graphics.

Throughout the year, you will produce a range of filmed material, involving pitching, pre-production, directing, and editing. Additionally, you will support your peers by providing technical and production assistance. The course covers a wide range of skills, including industry context, research and analysis, camera operation, sound recording, lighting, editing, compositing, audio post-production, and pitching and presentation techniques.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a robust foundation in media craft skills, lens and edit craft, and applied storytelling. You'll also explore cultural, historical, and social contexts and address creative challenges in multi-camera TV, performance based films, and narrative/script led productions. This program is designed to enhance your ability to engage audiences, refine your creative voice, and prepare you for advanced studies or careers in film and television.
