About the course
Gain the skills and knowledge to kickstart your career in
the Finance and Accounting sector. This qualification will give you the
knowledge and understanding across a broad range of issues relevant to the
sector and equip you with the necessary occupational and core skills and
behaviours to succeed in this industry.
On this course you will:
- Learn the fundamental principles of financial accounting.
- Develop an understanding of professionalism and ethics.
- Develop an awareness of key requirements of a data governance framework and understand methods and tools used to support decision making.
- Undertake a substantial industry placement. You will complete a minimum of 315 hours of placement with an employer to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English and
Mathematics or a relevant Level 2 qualification.
Modules
Fundamentals of financial accounting – an understanding of elementary financial principles, concepts and practices, and how this content links to relevant accounting, bookkeeping and business mathematics requirements.
Professionalism and ethics – an understanding of professional conduct and responsibilities in the workplace and ethical dilemmas for the individual, organisation and professional.
Data-driven innovation and analytics and design thinking – an awareness of key requirements of a data governance framework, and understanding the main contemporary visualisation tools and when they are best used to support decision making
Assessment
1. Core Component
This component covers the underpinning knowledge, concepts and skills that support you with the minimum levels of competence required in the accountancy industry. It is assessed by two-externally set Core Examinations and an Employer Set Project.
2. Occupational Specialist Component - You will complete the Assistant Accountant occupational specialism. This component covers the occupational specialist knowledge and skills required to demonstrate threshold competence for the specialism. It is assessed by a skills-related project that synoptically assesses the performance outcome skills and associated underpinning knowledge.
